Workshops, debates and capes at IRMS Conference 2016

May 20th, 2016    ,

We have just returned from an action-packed three days in Brighton at the IRMS Conference 2016.

Workshops, debates and capes at IRMS Conference 2016

The annual IRMS Conference is a chance for information and records managers to network and take part in lively discussions Delegates also hear from inspirational speakers, including Automated Intelligence CTO Simon Cole.

The theme of this year’s event was ‘Information Superheroes – Enabling Business Excellence’ and it’s fair to say the idea was very well received. We saw capes, wigs, eye masks and even green body paint!

Despite the lively and light-hearted theme, there was serious business to be done. It was an opportunity for public and private sector organisations to discover the latest in information and records management.

We wanted to show delegates how our products can greatly benefit their organisations, whether this was:

  • reducing cost
  • increasing governance
  • improving productivity

Over the three days we talked to people from all sectors and industries, the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland.

During his session on Tuesday, entitled “How to become an Information Superhero with SharePoint and Azure”, Simon Cole spoke to delegates about the challenges records managers face and the opportunities to overcome them:

“As we move towards better value services, Azure comes to the fore regarding how we manage information at scale.

“When you have billions of documents, how do you know what to keep? And in turn, how to preserve that? Managing the risk that our information presents is vital. How do we take control of that? The challenge is also identifying what information you do not know you have.”

He continued, “Some organisations are spending £20,000 per Terabyte of stored data, with maybe 20 or 30 Terabytes of information- the storage costs are, therefore, significant.

“We take it from their current platform and put it somewhere more cost effective, safer and fully managed. The place we are seeing more and more organisations starting to move to is Microsoft Azure.

“Over the last 18 months, more and more layers of security and control that have been put around it. We can now get a cloud infrastructure that is cost efficient and very secure.”

It was a very informative few days so many thanks to everyone who attended our session and stand at the Conference.

We’re looking forward to #IRMS17 in Scotland already!
