It might seem like a bold or unrealistic claim that anything could be as big as the WWW, so what exactly did Satya mean by this?
Well, to take it right back, let’s look at what Teams is.
What is Microsoft Teams?
Teams is a communication platform developed by Microsoft and is part of the M365 suite alongside some familiar faces such as Word and Outlook. It allows users to edit and share files, chat with colleagues and has videoconferencing capabilities, essentially a hub of collaboration and productivity.
While SharePoint is the place where all the documents live, Teams is the place to surface it – and effectively allows the users to do more with the content, all in one place.
It also integrates with other Microsoft and third-party apps such as Forms, Planner and YouTube so users don’t need to leave the platform whether it’s for group discussions, reviewing documents, tracking actions or even browsing videos.
So, back to the interview with the Financial Times during which Satya Nadella said he wanted Teams to be a “digital platform as significant as the internet browser.”
What he meant by that was… every day we use the internet for our work; we couldn’t do without it.
And Microsoft wants the same for Teams. That it, too, becomes an essential part of business operations, where employees/users can’t imagine not using it.
And he’s right. At Automated Intelligence we use Teams every day. Everything we do is through Teams.
It’s the single interface for all the other programs we use, including SharePoint and Word.
In October Microsoft announced that Teams reached 115 million daily active users stating that the “growth reflects the continued demand for Teams as the lifeline for remote and hybrid work and learning during the pandemic.”
So, more and more, organisations are recognising Teams as the portal for experiencing everything they need to do their job effectively.
Now, Nadella’s quote doesn’t sound too bold a claim after all, does it?
